Business ideas: Disaster preparedness

It our world today there is so much unpredictability. Anything can happen. There can be floods, earthquakes, landslides, fires and many other unforeseen problems. The blow from some of this problems can be reduced if we prepare for them. Disaster preparedness is a big business in some countries. Here are some ideas on how to make money and save lives and property.
1.      Cars with high air intake.

When there is flooding, normal vehicles find it very hard to pass through flooded streets. This usually means that many people will be stranded. This can be a big problem especially when medical emergencies occur. The solution to this problem is usually to look for a car that can wade through water. Cars with a high air intake are normally preferred in flood prone areas. I’ve noticed that many non- governmental organizations prefer only to buy such cars. These cars can even pass through shallow rivers. I’m not sure if normal saloon cars can be converted in order to have a high air intake but public service vehicles can. Therefore in flood prone areas, public service vehicles should be modified so that they are capable of being used in flood situations. For those who sell vehicles, they can stock cars with a high air intake. They will be able to attract customers who fear being stuck in a flood.

2.      Amphibious car
In the western world, some people who live in areas with large water bodies prefer to own boats. Sometime those boats have limitations especially if you live far from the lake or ocean. Boats cannot be driven on dry ground. So boat owners have to choose between leaving there precious asset by the lake side, hoping nobody will tamper with it, or look for a way to lift and carry around their boat every time they need to use it. Many years ago someone invented a solution to this problem. He created a car that can be driven in water. So in the morning, you take it out of your garage, drive to the lake and go straight into the water. Once it is inside, it works perfectly as a boat. This can be introduced locally in areas where there is perennial flooding. When there is no water, it’s a car. When there are floods, it’s a boat. Apart from a disaster preparedness item, it can also be used for recreation.

3.      Flood detection equipment
In many areas around the country, rivers are seasonal. This means that when there is no rain there is no river. The people who live in these communities often go to those dry river banks and dig around the dried up river so as to collect the underground water. The danger of this is that if it rains upstream, flood waters come rushing downstream which is very dangerous for those who are collecting water. If in those areas equipment to detect floods is installed, then the people living in those places will not suffer harm from ragging flood waters. They will be able to be warned early from any danger coming to them.

4.      Inflatable rafts

The key to surviving any flood is to stay above water. The problem is many items we have at home tend to sink. Therefore the need for inflatable rafts in crucial. Rafts are just small rubber boats which contain air. During the dry season, they can be deflated and kept in storage. When there is a risk of flooding, these can be inflated and kept on standby in case they are needed. Also training should be provided how to use them.
